There were more headlines about offensive tackle Trent Williams last year that had little to do with his performance on the field, whether it was injuries, a restructured contract, or the personal tragedy shared between him and his wife, Sondra.

Despite all those trials and tribulations, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch revealed at the NFL Combine that Williams will return to the team in 2025. Lynch described the 36-year-old as "ready" and "motivated."

Williams was his usual self in 2024, grading 85.6 by Pro Football Focus and allowing just one sack on 649 offensive snaps. The 11-time Pro Bowler did not play from Weeks 12 to 16 due to injury and was held out the final two games of the season after San Francisco was eliminated from playoff contention.

Williams is recognized as one of the league's top players. In 2024, he was ranked seventh in the NFL's Top 100 Players and the highest-rated offensive lineman.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound tackle is a three-time first-team All-Pro and one-time second-team All-Pro. Williams was the No. 4 overall pick in 2010 by the Washington Commanders.

Washington traded Williams in 2020 for a fifth-round pick and a 2021 third-round pick.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan worked with Williams previously, as he was the Commanders' offensive coordinator from 2010 to 2013.
