The San Francisco 49ers are banking on quarterback Brock Purdy and tight end George Kittle to help power a rebound in 2025 after last year's disappointing campaign. Judging by their early chemistry in training camp, the duo already looks to be in midseason form.

On Friday, Purdy and Kittle connected for a touchdown during red zone drills, potentially offering a glimpse of things to come in 2025. Both players signed contract extensions this offseason, ensuring the 49ers' dynamic duo will remain intact for years to come.

Saleh explains what makes the duo special

Robert Saleh was around early in Kittle's career, during the coach's first stint as the 49ers' defensive coordinator. He's witnessed the tight end play with several quarterbacks over the years. When asked what makes the Purdy-to-Kittle connection stand out, Saleh praised both players.

"Purdy is a damn good quarterback," Saleh said. "I've said it before. The young man layers the ball as good as anybody in football. He's very good [at] processing, gets the ball in and out of his hands.

"And Kittle makes it easy because he's got unbelievable route-running ability to create separation. And he's a big body that still has all the speed he had when he was a younger man. He's still young.

"It's a testament to Kittle, doesn't matter who the quarterback is—he's going to work relentlessly with that quarterback and with himself to put himself in position to be a playmaker."

Mac Jones impressed by practice chemistry

Quarterback Mac Jones, who joined San Francisco this offseason, offered a lighthearted take now that he's been able to witness the Purdy-Kittle connection firsthand.

"I feel like I'm on like Madden or something watching those guys because they're just on sync every time and they do a great job," Jones said.

Kittle continues to dominate

Kittle has become a fan favorite thanks to his outgoing personality and elite play on the football field. He is coming off his fourth career 1,000-yard receiving season and remains widely regarded as one of the NFL's top tight ends—and arguably the best all-around player at the position.

"And credit to Purdy, he gets him the ball when he needs to get it to him," Saleh added, clearly eager to see how the chemistry between his quarterback and tight end evolves in 2025.
