The San Francisco 49ers were dealt another crushing blow this week, and may need to make a trade to keep their team in the hunt.
In Week 3, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa exited the game against the Arizona Cardinals with a knee injury. The franchise had originally been hopeful that it wasn’t an ACL injury, but it was later confirmed that Bosa had torn it, and would be out for the season.
The 49ers will now be without Nick Bosa for the remainder of the season, as he becomes the latest name to land on the team’s extensive injury list.
The franchise is already waiting for George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk to return on offense, while quarterback Brock Purdy has now missed the last two games with toe and shoulder injuries.
The Niners are hoping to have Purdy back in Week 4, and if they manage to do so, they’ll get their franchise quarterback back in the lineup with an unblemished 3-0 record.
It’s not been a pretty start to the season for the 49ers. Their first three games have been a little clunky, and they’ve all been closely contested. However, all that matters is the record, and the Niners are one of just six teams in the NFL who are still undefeated.
Rich Eisen had said there was no need to panic, and the Niners have held firm so far despite the adversity.
If they believe as a franchise that they have a shot at the Super Bowl this season, they could explore the trade market for a pass rusher.
If the 49ers beat Jacksonville, a 4-0 start would make a great reason to be aggressive on the trade market — just saying.

Hell, John Lynch has been extremely aggressive on the trade market even when SF has had a .500 record
San Francisco was already a little light on edge pressure going into the season, and just lost their most impactful player. Multiple struggling teams have pass rushers that could be available, including the Cincinnati Bengals and the Miami Dolphins.
Rumors are already swirling on X. One NFL podcaster said:
“The 49ers have shown they can compete in 2025. They should call up the Bengals to see what it costs to trade for Trey Hendrickson in the wake of losing Nick Bosa for the season.”

Hendrickson is the most obvious example, considering the offseason he had with the Cincinnati Bengals and their current position three weeks into the season.
The pass rusher fought as hard as he could for a contract extension, but ultimately only got an adjusted deal for the current season. With no long-term deal secured, the Cincinnati Bengals could now look to trade Hendrickson for draft capital, in what could be a long and arduous season for them without Joe Burrow.
Trey Hendrickson already has two sacks so far this season, but his veteran presence on a struggling Bengals roster is almost wasted, and Cincinnati could be better off taking what they can get for him now before he walks as a free agent at the end of the season.
Bradley Chubb is another option, while facing a similar situation with the Miami Dolphins. Miami would have to absorb some dead cap if they opted to move him, but may be willing to do so in exchange for draft capital that would allow them to rebuild for the future.
Chubb is under contract through the 2027 season, and currently leads the Dolphins with three sacks through the first three games.

Fans are claiming that Robert Saleh’s return to the San Francisco 49ers this offseason is the best move the franchise has made in a long time. He’s already got the defense playing at a high level, and fans believe he can continue to coach them into the playoffs without Nick Bosa.
One fan said:
“Robert Saleh’s finest work with the Niners came when the defense was missing Nick Bosa for the whole year, last I recall. If there’s a coach who can create, manage, and adjust, Saleh is the guy!”
The Niners lost Nick Bosa in Week 2 of the 2020 season, but Saleh built a unit that continued to apply pressure and operate as one of the best defenses in the NFL.
He may now be tasked with having to do so again, but the franchise could get him some help if they want to push for a Super Bowl appearance in 2025.
