49ers signing CB Eli Apple to a one-year deal

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Green is not expected to return until the week of August 11, ahead of the 49ers' second preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Apple (6-1, 203), a former first-round pick (No. 10 overall) out of Ohio State by the New York Giants in 2016, brings nine seasons of NFL experience. He appeared in four games for the Los Angeles Chargers last season, registering two tackles and one pass defensed, per Pro Football Reference.

Over his NFL career, the 29-year-old cornerback has appeared in 102 games (82 starts), recording 383 tackles (seven for a loss), three quarterback hits, 0.5 sacks, 61 passes defensed, six interceptions, and three forced fumbles while playing for the Giants, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, and Chargers.
