The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Williams (6-4, 310) out of Samford in the seventh round (No. 223 overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Last season, he recorded 32 tackles, including seven for a loss, and one sack over 400 defensive snaps with the Chargers. Williams has logged at least 400 snaps in four of the past five seasons.
His best statistical season came in 2019 with the Chicago Bears when he posted 42 tackles (five for a loss), nine quarterback hits, and a career-high six sacks in 531 defensive snaps.
Williams, 34, has accumulated 157 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hits, 8.5 sacks, and seven passes defensed over his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Bears, Detroit Lions, New York Giants, and Chargers.
The signing follows defensive lineman Kalia Davis's knee injury in the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. Davis is scheduled for surgery and is expected to miss the first half of the regular season.
