49ers signing veteran tight end to practice squad

Stoll was among five players the 49ers recently worked out.

49ers tight end Jake Tonges is expected to miss time after sustaining a knee injury in the team's Week 1 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

"It wasn't good," head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted after the game. "I mean, it's not an ACL. It's MCL, I believe. But there's some issues with it that we've got to see how it is."

The 49ers also promoted tight end Brayden Willis from the practice squad to the active roster following Tonges' injury.

Stoll (6-4, 245) signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska following the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent his first three seasons with Philadelphia before splitting the 2024 season between the Eagles and Miami Dolphins. He joined the New Orleans Saints in 2025.

Last season with the Saints, Stoll appeared in 15 games, including four starts. He recorded six receptions on 11 targets for 46 yards and one touchdown, averaging 7.7 yards per catch.

Over five NFL seasons, Stoll has appeared in 76 regular-season games with 32 starts. He has totaled 28 receptions for 239 yards and one touchdown.
