The Texans have lined up another offensive line trade in time for the cutdown deadline. In addition to acquiring  Nathan Thomas, Houston is sending out Jarrett Patterson.

Patterson is being dealt to the 49ers, Tom Pelissero of the Ringer reports. Earlier today, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler named San Francisco as a candidate to acquire a new interior offensive lineman. A deal on that front has now been struck. Houston will receive a 2027 seventh-round pick, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

2026 was set to represent the final season of Patterson’s rookie contract, but he agreed to a revised one-year agreement this spring. The former sixth-rounder totaled 43 appearances and 24 starts across the regular and postseason during his tenure in Houston. Patterson is owed $1.15MM in base salary for the coming campaign. This swap will result in $1.4MM in cap savings for Houston while generating $442K in dead money charges.

The 2026 offseason has been defined in no small part by changes along the Texans’ offensive line. That unit has undergone a slew of changes in recent months with better play correctly being identified as an area of need for the coming season. Patterson made five starts (and another one in the playoffs) last year, but he is one of many departures up front.

The 49ers still have Jake Brendel in place as their starting center. Patterson, 29 on Tuesday, could emerge as their No. 2 option at that spot shortly before the start of the campaign, though. He could also occupy a key second-team spot at the guard position upon arrival on the West Coast.

Patterson’s market for next spring will be tied to his play with San Francisco. It will be interesting to see if he winds up handling starting duties for any notable period as a member of the 49ers before reaching free agency for the first time in 2027.
