49ers Trade Update Announced After Major NFL Move

The San Francisco 49ers have plenty of ways to upgrade at this year’s NFL trade deadline. While San Francisco is 6-1 and well on pace to make the playoffs, they cannot stand still and do nothing.

They suffered their first loss of the season Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons and, given all their wide receiver injuries, could add another weapon for quarterback Brock Purdy.

Another reason they need to make additions is because the Seattle Seahawks are coming for the NFC West division crown. On Tuesday, the Seahawks made a major move acquiring eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts.

Not only did Seattle make a major improvement to their offensive line, but Nelson would have been a strong pickup for the 49ers, so the Seahawks essentially took him off the board before San Francisco could.

However, an update on 49ers trade plans emerged moments after the move. “League-wide expectation is the #49ers will respond next after the #Seahawks acquisition of Quenton Nelson. The NFC West is about to heat up in a big way,” reported Jordan Schultz of The Schultz Report.

The obvious move for what’s next for the 49ers would be to potentially acquire a proven wide receiver for Purdy given how many injuries the group has sustained to Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel and De’Zhaun Stribling.

Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets would be an amazing candidate but would cost a lot. A more realistic option is potentially acquiring Chris Godwin to reunite with Evans from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but that depends on Tampa Bay falling out of contention.

San Francisco could also be on the lookout for another guard now that Nelson is unavailable. Landon Dickerson of the Philadelphia Eagles would be another target. What is clear is that San Francisco should feel more motivated than ever to add talent with the Seahawks coming.
