The San Francisco 49ers only play one team from the AFC East this season — The Miami Dolphins. So here we are in the next installment of 49ers vs, AFC East edition. I’ll go over how the 49ers stack up against the AFC East and the key changes each team made heading into 2026. Here’s my super non-in-depth look into the AFC East.

49ers Vs New England Patriots — 14-3, Lost Super Bowl

Key Additions

A.J. Brown, WR — Eagles

Romeo Doubs, WR — Packers

Key Departures

Stefon Diggs, WR — Commanders

Garrett Bradbury, C — Bears

The Patriots enter the 2026 season with high expectations after last year’s surprise Super Bowl berth. The addition of A.J. Brown should accelerate Drake Maye’s development, giving him a true WR1 to lean on. With a strong defense returning, New England could be one of the tougher teams in the AFC this season. They could also be another team that falls victim to a Super Bowl hangover.

49ers Vs Buffalo Bills — 12-5, Lost Divisional Round

Key Additions

Bradley Chubb, EDGE — Dolphins

DJ Moore, WR — Bears

Joe Brady, HC — Bills OC

Key Departures

Sean McDermott, HC

The Bills begin the Joe Brady era in a brand‑new stadium, hoping this is finally the year they get over the hump. Josh Allen will likely be in the MVP conversation again, and adding DJ Moore gives the offense another reliable weapon. As long as Allen is under center, Buffalo remains a legitimate threat in the AFC; how far they go will depend on how improved that defense is — and if they can avoid the self-inflicted wounds that always seem to show up when it counts.

49ers Vs Miami Dolphins — 7-10

Key Additions

Malik Willis, QB — Packers

Jeff Hafley, HC — Packers

Key Departures

Tyreek Hill, WR

Jaylen Waddle, WR — Broncos

Tua Tagovailoa, QB — Falcons

Mike McDaniel, OC — Chargers

The Dolphins enter the Jeff Hafley era with a roster that could either repeat a 7‑10 season or end up in the Arch Manning sweepstakes. Malik Willis played well last season for the Packers in limited action, but it will be interesting to see who emerges as his top target with Hill and Waddle gone. The Dolphins dont have a big name on the defensive side of the ball that stands out like they’ve had in years past — or maybe we just dont know who that player is yet. Miami appears to be in a soft rebuild that could easily turn into a full rebuild… again.

49ers Vs New York Jets — 3-14

Key Additions

Geno Smith, QB — Raiders

Minkah Fitzpatrick, S — Dolphins

Key Departures

Jermaine Johnson II, DE — Titans

Alijah Vera‑Tucker, OG — Patriots

The Jets enter 2026 with Geno Smith at quarterback, and if he can stay healthy, they could mess around and win six or seven games. New York has weapons across the roster — the question is how long they can keep them on the field. They could just as easily be one of the teams picking first in next April’s draft. It will be interesting to see how long before the Jets pull the plug on the season and find themselves looking for another head coach, because at the end of the day… they’re still the Gosh Darn Jets!

End Of My 49ers Vs AFC East Rant

The 49ers play the Dolphins early this season, and it’s one of those games that shouldn’t worry 49er fans. If the 49ers played the Bills or Patriots, that would be a different story since both teams are balanced and have playoff experience. The AFC East usually produces one of the top threats in the conference, which leaves plenty of questions: Will the Patriots have a Super Bowl hangover? Can Josh Allen finally make it to a Super Bowl? Are the Jets or Dolphins going to surprise everyone? That and more will be answered this season.
