49ers work out free-agent QB ahead of Buccaneers game
Chris Streveler Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the San Francisco 49ers worked out free-agent quarterback Chris Streveler on Tuesday ahead of the team's Week 11 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It's important to note that the workout doesn't necessarily signify an imminent roster move. The team routinely evaluates free agents as a proactive measure for potential future needs.

San Francisco currently has three quarterbacks on its roster — Brock Purdy, Sam Darnold and Brandon Allen. Purdy and Darnold played on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and neither was mentioned in head coach Kyle Shanahan's injury reports following the game or on Monday afternoon.

After going undrafted in 2018, Streveler joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2020 and has spent time with the Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets.

The quarterback sustained an injury during this year's Hall of Fame game and was released with an injury settlement in August. Streveler has appeared in nine NFL games with one start, completing 67.5% of his passes for 231 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
