Netflix has officially dropped season two of Quarterback on Tuesday, and this year's version features Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff. We just finished the season, and here are the five biggest takeaways:
It was great to get some more insight into how the stumblebum play came together. The initial version of the play had Goff fumbling on purpose. Thank God they went away from the idea because that could have gone poorly. We got to see Goff and the Lions offense work on the play at Allen Park, and realize that things could work even better if Jahmyr Gibbs also fell down. It was cool to see the different levels in how a play evolves.
The game against the Texans was easily Goff's worst performance of the season, but it was simultaneously the game in which you knew the Lions were in good hands with Goff and that paying him all that money was a good idea.
The reasoning is because he overcame five interceptions and then balled out down the stretch and led the Lions to a win. In the show, you get to see how, at no point, Goff cracks during that game. He keeps the same attitude throughout despite the frustration of the turnovers. That's what you want from your quarterback.
That was one of the coolest things about this show. The big thing you always remember about Stafford's time in Detroit is that he played through everything until his team just refused to let him play through a broken back.
Goff showed that he's very similar. That ankle injury he had against the Titans looks pretty bad, and you can tell that it was bugging him even after the game and going into that Texans game, He kept playing through it.
Then, after that hit Frankie Luvu put on him in the Divisional Game, he immediately kept telling the trainers that he was going back out there while they were trying to get him in the blue tent to evaluate for a concussion. He said multiple times that there was no pain he wouldn't play through. Lions should be happy to have that again.
This was really the first time that Lions fans have had a chance to get to know Christen Goff outside of the now-infamous Sports Illustrated swimsuit shoot in which she found out the Lions had won their first game of the year in 2021. That was talked about in the show.
Outside of that, she helps Goff memorize plays, she sets up an awesome Christmas tree, she bawled her eyes out after the loss to the Commanders, and then we went to the ultrasound with her and Jared. While Jared may be like Matthew, we learned that Christen is not like someone else.
I mean, come on, that dog was awesome.
