With Super Bowl LX all but done, the pain still lingers for the New England Patriots. However, an even bigger risk seems to be looming, one directly tied to Drake Maye’s prime years. New England can only afford smart, logical moves now, especially with roughly $41 million in cap space and Mike Vrabel building fast.
The first free agent targeted is Chaisson, who was once dismissed as a first-round bust. The linebacker found new life in Foxborough, notching 7.5 sacks on a modest one-year deal last season. That’s more than he had in any of his first four years with Jacksonville.
Chaisson is 26 now and wants to stay. However, success has a price. If the stars align, he could see a significant jump in his salary this offseason, testing whether the Patriots’ culture can keep their breakout star without breaking the budget.
If Chaisson was the revival story that the team needs right about now, then Jaylinn Hawkins is definitely the revelation. Signed on a low-cost deal, he has emerged as a playmaker in the secondary under Vrabel’s system.
What started as a bargain contract might graduate into a major raise on the open market. It is now up to the Patriots to decide whether continuity in the secondary is worth paying what increasingly looks like “star money” for a player who just became one.
It’s clear that Drake Maye needs more than protection. He requires a game-changing target. Enter Kyle Pitts, who is coming off 88 catches for 928 yards and five touchdowns in 2025, one of the most productive seasons by any tight end in the league. The question we must ask now is will the Falcons let him reach the open market for the Patriots to even have a shot at him, via free agency or trade.
Well, if it happens that Pitts becomes realistically available, his projected multiyear deal at or above the low-teens per year could devour a third of the Patriots’ cap space. But then can you really put a price on a 25-year-old tight end with ascending production and elite chemistry potential with Maye?
Not every signing here needs a mountain of fireworks. Isaac Seumalo, who is among the top 20 guards in the league and a 2024 Pro Bowler, comes with durability and consistency, two silent foundations that are key to a young quarterback’s success.
Walker is only 25. However, he is an imposing lineman who could protect Maye’s blindside for years to come. The Patriots will have to be willing to shell out something in the neighborhood of $20 million a year to land him, though, given where the tackle market is trending.
New England will have to play smart, reclaim overlooked talent, and see how it can keep everything running as efficiently as possible. If Vrabel and the front office get this balancing act right, the Patriots’ rebuild won’t stall — it’ll evolve into the NFL’s fastest reloaded dynasty.
