5 Reasons Justin Herbert is Poised to Win the Passing Yards Title in Jubilant 2023 Season

Since coming into the league in 2020, Los Angeles Chargers‘ star quarterback Justin Herbert has established himself as one of the prominent passers in the NFL. Under a new offensive system led by recently attained offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Herbert is destined to throw the ball more than ever before. Here are five reasons why Justin Herbert will have the most passing yards in the 2023 NFL season.

1. Past Success

In all three seasons of Justin Herbert’s career, he has amassed over 4,300 passing yards every single year. Most recently in the 2022 season, Herbert threw for 4,739 passing yards, along with 25 touchdowns to add to his resumé. With a plethora of targets to choose from, like receivers Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, and even running back Austin Ekeler, Herbert will have many opportunities to spread the ball around the field for his playmakers.

2. Quarterback Friendly Offensive Scheme

In last year’s campaign, Herberts’ stats declined compared to past seasons, and a big reason for that was Ex-Chargers’ offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. However, after Lombardi’s departure from the team, the Chargers gave Herbert the privilege of choosing who his next coordinator would be, in which he went with Kellen Moore, the previous coordinator for the Cowboys.

Moore is best known for his quarterback-centric approach to the offense, leading Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott to his best career stats in Moore’s time with the team. Now, with Moore working with Justin Herbert, who is better than Prescott, this offense is poised to explode under the wing of Herbert and his passing abilities, which Moore will look to unlock.

3. Undeniable Talent

If you have followed Herbert’s journey at all, then you know his talent is second to none amongst other passers in the league. He has pinpoint accuracy on almost every throw, especially with the deep ball, which is his greatest strength. If you don’t believe this analysis, just watch these highlights for yourself, since actions speak louder than words.

4. Clutch Factor

The Chargers seem to always have a chance to win every game they play in, and a big reason for this is Herbert’s success in crucial moments. The Chargers’ defense has a tendency to give up touchdowns towards the end of games.

In many moments, Herbert has proven that he has the capability to keep the Chargers in the game when they are down, leading his offense to 22 game-winning drives in his career. A great example is in week 14 of the 2022 season against the Tennessee Titans, with Herbert’s clutch throw to Mike Williams to set up the game-winning field goal.

5. Justin Herbert’s Destiny

After declining in production last season, Justin Herbert is determined and projected to have the best statistical season of his career so far, hoisting the Chargers to new heights in 2023. Looking to prove his doubters wrong, Herbert will look to surpass the 5,000 passing yard mark for the second time in his developing NFL career, solidifying his chances to win the passing yards title in the 2023 season.
