Just a few more days until the official start of the 2025 NFL season begins for the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
The big story in the offseason is the number of defensive weapons they lost and how Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has decided to go younger with the roster. That means giving less experienced players more reps in 2025 to show whether they are for real or are just role players.
This means the potential for breakout stars on the Eagles is through the roof. Which of the more unknown players are poised to have monster 2025 campaigns with Philly?
The potential that Shipley has on offense is crazy. Saquon Barkley needs fewer carries to handle, and Shipley is too talented not to have the ball in his hands. While Eagles fans know that Shipley will make for a solid returner on kickoff, getting him involved in the passing game while stretching him outside the tackles on run plays will make him a sleeper for 2025.
If anyone on the Eagles needs a breakout season, it's Dotson. Just a little over 200 yards receiving and zero touchdowns a season ago had Dotson on the hot seat in the final year of his contract. He looked great in preseason, and the Eagles will be using him in different ways on offense this season, so there is optimism that things will be smoother in 2025.
Steen has some significant shoes to fill with Mekhi Becton departing from the right guard job. During the preseason, Steen looked great in the Cincinnati Bengals game, as he bullied the starting defensive linemen. There is hope that the Eagles will have another steal on the line with Steen jumping into the right guard position.
Everyone's favorite selection for breakout star of 2025 on the Eagles had to be included on this list. That's because Ojomo is sneakily a dominant pass rusher at tackle and might be just as good as Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. Ojomo is going to make some major noise this season and rack up a lot of quarterback pressures.
After a ton of concern about who would step up in Nakobe Dean's absence with his injury, Trotter and Jihaad Campbell had stellar training camps. Trotter earned a reputation as one of the top run-stopping linebackers on the team. While Campbell might end up starting, Trotter has a chance to prove that he is more than a special teams ace and will be featured in the rotation at linebacker plenty of times this season.
Since being traded from the Las Vegas Raiders, Eagles fans have been eager to see what they have in Bennett. The secondary has not been great during preseason, with Kelee Ringo and Adoree' Jackson initially battling for the CB2 job. Bennett had a nice pass breakup against the Cleveland Browns that gave Eagles fans hope he can be a guy. After allowing just a career completion percentage of 59.8% on 82 targets, Bennett could become the breakout star the Eagles desperately need in the secondary.
