Willis hasn’t gotten many opportunities in the pros yet

Willis was taken by San Francisco in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. He spent five years with the Sooners, and in his final year with them, he caught 39 passes for 514 yards and seven touchdowns.

For that season, Pro Football Focus gave him a 71.7 overall offensive grade, as well as an 80.3 run-blocking grade and an 81.2 pass-blocking grade.

In the pros, Willis has mostly gotten snaps on special teams. While he has appeared in 16 games in two previous seasons with the Niners, he hasn’t caught a single pass with them and has been targeted just three times.

With Kittle still working his way back from the torn Achilles he suffered in last season’s playoffs, Willis could have a bit of an opportunity to work his way onto the field. Kittle was recently removed from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, but he is being brought along slowly, and it is currently unknown if he will suit up for Week 1 of the regular season.

The 49ers, of course, will head to Melbourne, Australia, to play the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. That game will take place on Sept. 10, and they will then return to the States to host the Miami Dolphins in Week 2 on Sept. 20.
