"Hot Take: Rookie Terrance Ferguson leads Rams TEs in yards, and receptions
During the draft cycle, no TE raised their stock more than Oregon’s Terrance Ferguson. I thought he had a fantastic week at the Senior Bowl and was one of the few TEs to stand out during the Scouting Combine. This led him to be selected in the second round, and I loved that he landed with the Los Angeles Rams. I think he will become a reliable target for Matthew Stafford as a rookie, and I believe he will ultimately outplay veteran Tyler Higbee and be the Rams’ top TE in 2025."
- NFC West Hot Takes
Tyler Higbee has been with the Rams for each of his first nine years in the NFL. He has appeared in 128 games and has been the team's starting TE for 119. He is coming off. a year where he suffered an injury that cut his season short after just three games. Even before that injury, Higbee recorded his lowest receiving yard total since 2018 in 2023 with 495 yards. Even before the Rams selected Ferguson, there was some warranted doubt surrounding Higbee's future as the team's starter.
Now they add a player at the position who has a ton of upside and is coming off an impressive draft cycle where he was able to impress teams every chance he was presented. And that follows a very productive career at Oregon, where he recorded 1,537 yards and 16 touchdowns over four seasons, with 1,396 yards and 14 touchdowns coming over his last three years. It will be interesting to see who is the team's day one starter at TE, but I don't think it should surprise anyone if they elect to give the keys to the Ferguson, who clearly gives them more upside as a pass catcher than the veteran Higbee. Before he can do that, though, the Rams and Ferguson will have to come to an agreement to get his rookie contract signed.
