A look at how latest free agent acquisition Zay Jones fits into the Arizona Cardinals' WR corps

As reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Arizona Cardinals have signed free agent wide receiver Zay Jones to a one-year contract worth up to $4.25M.

Jones was set to enter the final year of a three-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars but was released by the team last week. Originally a second-round pick by the Buffalo Bills, Jones is entering his ninth NFL season with his fourth team. He is a big target at 6-foot-2 who primarily lines up outside the boundary.

Jones is coming off a bit of a disappointing 2023 season in which he caught 34 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns in nine games. He missed several weeks due to a knee injury and was knocked down the depth chart with the return of Calvin Ridley. Just one year prior, however, Jones set career-highs in receptions with 82 and yards with 823.

Bringing in Jones makes a lot of sense for Arizona, who even with the addition of first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr., still needed help at receiver. It's very possible that Jones could start opposite of Harrison Jr., which is likely why he chose to sign with the Cardinals over other teams that he has visited with.

With Harrison Jr. and Jones on the outside and fifth-year man Greg Dorth working in the slot, the Cardinals now have a formidable WR corps, especially if Jones can get back to his 2022 form. Quarterback Kyler Murray now has some weapons to work with as he looks to play his first full season since 2020.
