A Look at the Dolphins Quarterback Room

The Miami Dolphins enter the 2026 season in an intriguing position at quarterback. While there is no official Week 1 starter, Malik Willis appears to have the inside track entering training camp. Together, Willis, Quinn Ewers, and Cam Miller give Miami a quarterback room that blends immediate opportunity with long-term potential.

Since entering the NFL, Willis has been known for his elite athleticism, arm strength, and ability to create plays outside the pocket. Although his opportunities to start have been limited, his physical tools have never been in question. Now, with a full offseason to learn the offense and build chemistry with his teammates, Willis has a chance to prove he can be more than an athletic playmaker. If he can pair smart decision-making with his mobility, he has the potential to lead an exciting Dolphins offense.

Pushing Willis is second-year quarterback Quinn Ewers. Although the Dolphins have an entirely new coaching staff and offensive system, Ewers enters his second season with valuable NFL experience after starting the final three games of 2025. While he is learning a new offense alongside the rest of the quarterback room, he already understands the speed, physicality, and weekly preparation required at the professional level.

His arm talent, quick release, and ability to make difficult throws have never been in doubt, and another offseason of development has only added to his confidence. Willis may have the early edge, but Ewers has positioned himself to challenge for playing time while continuing to make his case as part of Miami’s long-term plans.

Cam Miller rounds out the quarterback room as a dependable depth option. While he may not receive the same attention as Willis or Ewers, every successful quarterback room benefits from having a player who understands the offense, prepares like a starter, and is ready whenever his number is called.

The battle between Willis and Ewers will be one of the Dolphins’ most closely watched storylines throughout training camp and the regular season. Willis has the first opportunity to claim the job, but Ewers’ continued development ensures the competition won’t disappear anytime soon.

Miami’s quarterback room is built on competition, development, and opportunity. Whether one of these quarterbacks emerges as the franchise’s long-term answer remains to be seen, but the 2026 season will be an important evaluation period as the Dolphins continue building toward the future.
