A Mutually Beneficial Signing the Chiefs Should Consider

The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the best rosters in the National Football League but could still use improvement at a number of positions heading into next season.

Although the Chiefs had a solid draft haul, they should still consider adding a few more players to the mix.

LeAnn Lowman of the Pro Football Network believes running back Nick Chubb could be a potential fit for the Chiefs' middling ground game. Kansas City has rightfully focused on other areas of its roster this summer, but its ground game leaves much to be desired.

"The Kansas City Chiefs fell woefully short in their Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and one of the things they were missing was a strong rushing attack, as Isiah Pacheco didn’t look the same after breaking his leg early in the 2024 season," Lowman said.

"Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, and Samaje Perine combined for 24 rushing yards in the Super Bowl loss. While the Chiefs re-signed Hunt, another former [Cleveland] Browns player, he is 29 years old and was inconsistent last season. While Chubb does come with some injury risk, he also comes with a major chip on his shoulder. Chubb wants to win, and the Chiefs give him a real shot at a ring. Perhaps Chubb and Hunt could reunite in Kansas City’s backfield?

Chubb's injury history is enough to give any team pause. However, few teams in the league are as well off as the Chiefs are roster-wise. Kansas City has taken a running back by committee approach to their backfield, which would be perfect for Chubb in more ways than one.

In Kansas City, Chubb would not have to be a workhorse, as he has been up until this point in his career. This takes pressure off of him to succeed and takes some of the wear and tear off his body, lessening the chances of him suffering another injury.

Chubb and the Chiefs make sense for more than one reason, as it could be a mutually beneficial relationship between the two sides. However, whether or not the Chiefs decide to add to their group of running backs will largely depend on how they feel about the backs they already have.
