The Miami Dolphins' offensive line could be one of the areas that makes or breaks the team's season in 2024. With Terron Armstead back, Austin Jackson coming off a breakthrough season, and swing tackle Kendall Lamm returning for another year, the Dolphins appear set to go on the outside.
However, questions remain on the inside. The team signed free agent IOL Aaron Brewer from the Titans. They also brought back Isaiah Wynn, who started the season at left guard before a quad injury later curtailed his season. But no real answer has been provided for right guard after Robert Hunt left for Carolina, and quality depth is a relative concern, especially with the swath of injuries that struck the unit last year.
One of the biggest hopes of the offseason for Dolphins fans is that somehow 2023 starting center Connor Williams could end up back in Miami for 2024 and beyond. However, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus, that doesn't sound likely. Rosenhaus joined Drew Moser on Sunday night and advised that while Williams will be ready for training camp, it doesn't appear that he will be appearing at the Dolphins'.
Connor Williams update: Agent Drew Rosenhaus says he will be ready for #TrainingCamp after tearing his ACL in Week 11 last year. He added a deal with the Dolphins is “unlikely.” Williams is looking to play center, not guard like he did with Cowboys. #nflfreeagency #finsup pic.twitter.com/SYKfZXeRUw

"On behalf of Connor, I'm sure he'd be open to it, but I wouldn't say that it's likely that he would return here with the Dolphins. I certainly wouldn't rule anything out, but the Dolphins did sign a fine center in Aaron Brewer from the Tennessee Titans and made a big investment. So, I think Connor, wherever he signs, will be as a center."
Williams tore his ACL during the Dolphins' 28-27 loss to the Titans on Monday Night Football back on December 11. However, it sounds from Rosenhaus and a recent report from ESPN's Adam Schefter regarding interest from multiple teams around the league, that he'll be good to go for the start of the season.
The interesting thing about Miami is that Brewer has played both guard and center before while a member of the Titans. Brewer could conceivably make the move to guard and pave the way for Williams to potentially return.
That being said, it's worth noting that Brewer's best work came at center and not at guard. Brewer earned a 71.6 grade with a 78.7 blocking grade at center last year, as opposed to 59.9/63.3 marks in 2022, where he played almost completely at guard.
As such, it might be that while the Dolphins COULD move Brewer to guard, they don't want to. And if that's the case, then it's very likely that the door for a possible return by Williams to the Dolphins is closing shut.
