Aaron Donald had a message for anyone concerned about his lack of production on the field.
The Los Angeles Rams legend has not looked like his All-Pro self through his first five games played this season. But that hasn’t irked him the way some might expect.
On Thursday, a reporter asked Donald whether not having a sack thus far bothers him.
“No. I didn’t come back for individual stats,” the 35-year-old answered.
“I would love to have some stats, but I’m here to just play the game. When the plays present themselves, take advantage of it, try to get my plays, but my main focus is trying to find ways to help this team win. That’s the goal. I didn’t come back to try to earn individual accolades or anything. I did that, accomplished that. It doesn’t excite me. The only thing that excites me is winning so I’m just playing a football game, trying to do what I can to help this team. As long as we win, I can build off everything else and get myself better off that.”
Donald has 111.0 career sacks across his first 10 seasons. Even if he fails to record another sack this year, his first-ballot case for the Pro Football Hall of Fame wouldn’t be impacted at all.
The 10-time Pro Bowler has also yet to line up alongside Myles Garrett, who remains out due to a knee injury.
Donald may not be having the dream comeback he was hoping for so far, but there’s still a lot of the season left to play.
