When Aaron Donald returned to the Los Angeles Rams for the 2026 season, he had visions of dominating next to Myles Garrett and competing for another Super Bowl.
So far, things haven’t played out how he had hoped as Garrett has been out since Week 1 with a knee injury and the Rams sit at 3-4. Additionally, Donald has yet to record a sack in five games played as he has just 10 total tackles and two tackles for loss.
Despite the lack of sacks, Donald is not concerned as his focus is elsewhere.
“No. I didn’t come back for individual stats. I would love to have some stats, but I’m here to just play the game,” Donald said. “When the plays present themselves, take advantage of it, try to get my plays, but my main focus is trying to find ways to help this team win. That’s the goal.”
Donald has had multiple sacks that were called back due to penalties, so his outlook would look much different right now if those plays stood. Regardless, he is still making a positive impact for the Rams when he is on the field and wants to keep doing that.
“I didn’t come back to try to earn individual accolades or anything,” he said. “I did that, accomplished that. It doesn’t excite me. The only thing that excites me is winning so I’m just playing a football game, trying to do what I can to help this team. As long as we win, I can build off everything else and get myself better off that.”
Garrett has missed the Rams’ last six games after undergoing surgery to repair a torn MCL. While the hope was that he would be back within that six-week time frame, the Rams did not open up his practice window this week.
That means Garrett will miss his seventh straight game this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Rams then only have two more games left before their bye, so it’s possible that he misses both of those to give himself extra time to get back to 100% health for the stretch run.
Once Garrett is back, then players like Donald should be able to feast due to the attention he commands.
