Shortly after the New York Jets fell to 3-13 on the season via a 42-10 home loss to the rival New England Patriots this past Sunday, first-year Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said that he felt "like our effort wasn't as good as I would want it to be."
Glenn sang somewhat of a different tune while speaking with reporters on Monday.
"Effort was not the issue with that game," Glenn said, per Susanna Weir of the Jets' website. "I thought our guys played all the way to the very end."
NFL insider Connor Hughes of SNY mentioned on Sunday evening that the Jets looked like a team "that quit" versus the first-place Patriots. Glenn made it known on Monday that he disagrees with such assessments.
"There was nothing about them [showing] that they were throwing up the white flag and they were quitting," Glenn continued.
ESPN's Rich Cimini previously pointed out that the Jets' minus-107 point differential is the worst in NFL history for the month of December. Additionally, the Jets have now lost four straight games and six of their past seven contests.
Nevertheless, Cimini noted that Jets owner Woody Johnson seems to be "committed to Glenn" and to first-year general manager Darren Mougey through at least the start of the 2026 season.
"...Our guys did not quit," Glenn added. "They were running to the ball. They were trying to defend the pass. They were doing all those things they needed to do to win that game, and that was evident when you just go back and watch the game. And watching it twice, that really showed up."
Perhaps the best news for Glenn and Co. regarding Week 18 is that the 11-5 Buffalo Bills won't have much to play for when they host the Jets on Sunday, as Buffalo can't catch the 13-3 Patriots in the AFC East standings. On Monday, Glenn shared what he wants to see from his players at Buffalo's Highmark Stadium.
"We have one week left to continue to improve, and that's what we're focused on," Glenn explained. "[The Bills] are a playoff team, so that gives us another chance to go out there and play against a playoff team. And I'm looking forward to that."
As of Tuesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Jets as seven-point underdogs against a Bills side that may rest starters ahead of the playoffs.
