Despite how brutal the 2025 season was for Aaron Glenn, he'll get a chance to redeem himself as the head coach of the New York Jets.
Glenn, 53, was one of the most popular candidates during last year's coaching carousel. He built up his stock by having successful coaching stints wit the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions.
Unfortunately for Glenn, his first year as an NFL head coach was an utter disaster. The Jets finished the regular season with a 3-14 record. Although he's a defensive-minded coach, his defense failed to record a single interception. A large portion of the fan base wanted him fired but owner Woody Johnson decided to run things back.
That being said, Glenn is making massive changes to his staff. Not only does he need a new defensive coordinator, he has to replace six other assistants.
According to multiple reports, Glenn has fired assistant defensive backs coach Dre Bly, pass game coordinator Scott Turner, linebackers coach Aaron Curry, defensive assistant Alonso Escalante, quarterbacks coach Charles London and defensive assistant Roosevelt Williams.
NFL fans aren't the only ones alarmed by the changes being made in New York. Several reporters who cover the Jets have noticed the dysfunction.
"What a mess," Dianna Russini of The Athletic said.
"My take on all of this: There are massive questions regarding Aaron Glenn and his ability to do this job. Mounting evidence and statistics indicate he cannot," SNY's Connor Hughes wrote. "That was the case before he fired a vast number of staffers and whiffed badly on the QB. It’s the case now. Yes, this reflects poorly on the coach. These were his hand-picked guys and ones he boasted about getting at various points last offseason. To move on from assistants, DC and potentially demoted the OC? Makes you wonder: What exactly went right?"
"If Glenn was going to basically overhaul the entire staff-the Jets should have just fired Glenn," former WFAN host Brandon Tierney said.
Glenn needs to show drastic improvement as a coach in 2026 if he wants to retain his job.
Time will tell if Glenn has what it takes to drag the Jets back to relevancy.
