Aaron Jones’ impressive feat vs. 49ers overshadowed by disappointing Packers loss

The Packers ultimately fell to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC divisional round of the playoffs, 24-21, but Green Bay running back Aaron Jones took centerstage for a second consecutive week.

After ripping off 118 rushing yards and a stellar three touchdowns in a dominant 48-32 wild-card round victory over the Dallas Cowboys, Jones' performance against the 49ers was noteworthy once again.

While Jones didn't light up the box score in quite the same fashion as he did last week, he did manage to top the 100-yard rushing mark, finishing with 108 yards, something no rusher has done against San Francisco since the 2021 season, as StatMuse highlighted.

It's a wild statistic for the 49ers, but impressive that Jones was able to snap the streak in such a high-profile game. This means the 49ers had gone a stunning 50 games since allowing a 100-yard rusher, and the player who managed to hit that mark against them back in 2021 was Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, who finished with 103 yards.

Jones, 29, is under contract for one more season with the Packers and, as things currently stand, is slated to be a free agent following the 2024 NFL season. The former fifth-round draft pick in 2017 missed six games this season due to injury, but over the 11 games played in the regular season, was on pace for just north of 1,000 rushing yards.
