The 2009 season was incredibly special for the Minnesota Vikings because Brett Favre came in and stabilized the quarterback position. It took an extra year since the Green Bay Packers wouldn't trade Favre to the Vikings, but instead traded him to the New York Jets.
That path has also been taken by his successor Aaron Rodgers. He played one full season with the Jets just like Favre did and was also released.
Of course, once Rodgers got released we heard everyone spew the same theory: will Rodgers follow in Favre's footsteps? That noise got louder on Saturday morning when NFL Network's Mike Garafolo mentioned the idea of Rodgers.
Last night appears to have been the start of some QB chaos. If Daniel Jones doesn’t remain with the #Vikings, that will make it even more chaotic, as Aaron Rodgers could be in play in Minnesota, which would then force the #Giants to turn to Plan C…

Lots to play out next week. https://t.co/TcyMTvVd9I
This isn't the first time that an insider has mentioned the idea of Rodgers to the Vikings. It was mentioned by ESPN's Adam Schefter right after the Super Bowl.
"Here's a guy (Rodgers) that I think he's made more money than any NFL player in history right now, and so that gives him the ability to sit back and be selective about what he does and doesn't want to do. If there's a situation that he's not particularly enthralled with, he doesn't have to do it. But on the surface today, my guess would be he does want to play. He can help a team. How many spots? Chef t how many spots you think would want Aaron Rodgers his service?
"Whenever we talk to Aaron, you know, chapters tell us there's two, three spots, something to think about. It's a forward-moving thing, right? You just don't know there are seven guys. Is Minnesota gonna lose Sam Darnold? Are they going to bring him back?"
The interesting thing about this entire situation is the report that quarterback Sam Darnold is not likely to return to the Vikings. It's not that much of a surprise, but one day prior a report surfaced that the Vikings had a contract on the table for him.
With the likelihood that Darnold will end up signing with the Seattle Seahawks sky high, the Vikings are going to have to pivot, as McCarthy is the only quarterback on the roster once free agency begins.
The Vikings are going to need to bring in talent at the position, which is why Rodgers' name has been brought up. There is one problem here:
Why would Rodgers want to come to Minnesota?
It's obvious the Vikings want to start the McCarthy era and the only way they were going to wait was if Darnold decided to come back. They also (likely) want to bring in some competition for McCarthy in the same way that Darnold was competition. Is Rodgers going to be willing to "compete" for a starting job that he would likely be replaced at some point during the season?
It would make sense for someone like Daniel Jones or Gardner Minshew to take that opportunity, but Rodgers is a future Hall of Famer who could be in line to start somewhere else in the NFL. Plus, there is his perceived ego that might not allow him to be willing to take that job.
Sure, it might be cool to see the prophecy come to fruition, but it doesn't make much sense.
