Aaron Rodgers continues to prove the Steelers' controversial decision was correct with brutally honest comments about the offense

It seems like ages ago, but if you recall the offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers were heavily criticized for being in the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes. National media, local pundits, and even Super Bowl-winning QB Terry Bradshaw slammed the decision.

Well, it's safe to say that Rodgers and the Steelers made the right choice. Not only did he help snap the losing streak and play an integral part in keeping the Steelers in sole possession of the AFC North lead, but he also led the league in passing TDs after his game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Yet, if you ask Rodgers, the offense wasn't nearly good enough.

Aaron Rodgers says Steelers' offense needs to look itself in the mirror

"I loved the play calling. . .I thought the execution was pretty bad," said Rodgers after the game via the Pittsburgh Steelers YouTube channel. "You know, we got to look in the mirror and play better on offense, because that's not good enough. Any phase. Me, run game, catching the football. Defense played incredible. We got to put a game like that away. We got to put 35, 42 on the board and close the game out. So good game for coaching staff, when you win a game and you got a lot to work on."

That is the accountability that the Steelers 'offense has been missing since Big Ben was under center, and it's exactly what this team needed. The Steelers capitalized on turnovers, converting three into touchdowns and one into a field goal, accounting for 24 of their 27 points.

But there were too many errors. DK Metcalf had a drop that Rodgers spoke to, Roman Wilson could have coughed the game away if not for another Joey Porter Jr. interception, and the run game was stuck in mud again as the team finished with a mere 38 yards on the ground. Part of that could be due to the fourth quarter loss of the team's best lineman, but the point remains.

If the Steelers want to be serious contenders, they have to start winning in all phases. Sunday was the closest and the best example of that in a long time. A dominant day by the defense, a muffed punt recovery by the special teams unit, and an offense that made plays when it had to.

But as Rodgers alluded to, if the Steelers' offense can find a way to execute, the team may finally be able to make some noise.

Oh, and a potential trade at WR could help that.
