The Pittsburgh Steelers had a rather tumultuous 2025 offseason. There were plenty of transactions regarding the wide receiving corps, but the biggest storyline for several months was the quarterback position. It finally came to a point where Aaron Rodgers felt comfortable putting pen to paper, and he will be under center for the organization, most likely for just one year. The veteran is entering his 21st season overall, as he spent 18 campaigns with the Green Bay Packers and then two with the New York Jets. It will take a little bit of time to adjust to a franchise that he has never played for in the past.
No one knew if Rodgers would sign with the Steelers prior to the organization's mandatory minicamp, but once he did, it was extremely exciting to see the four-time MVP in the black and gold. The only small caveat to this was that Rodgers didn't workout directly with the team that much. Head Coach Mike Tomlin had the veteran off to the side, instead of going through tons of progressions in the middle of June.
Aaron Rodgers participated only in individual drills today.

During team drills, he had a play script and was listening to the calls through his helmet and then repeating them. The QB said the Shanahan-tree concepts are familiar but some terminology is different.
During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers spoke about a lot of things that have come up since he signed to play with the Steelers. He identified an odd part of minicamp that was new for him because he wasn't doing anything when the team drills were going on.
"It was a weird experience in the best way for me to not take team reps in the minicamp because I actually got to watch," Rodgers said. "So I just was watching, and everything, I don't miss a whole lot. I'm watching the dynamics between the offense and defense. I'm watching the dynamics as the leadership starts to show what it is, and I think that's the thing that's really exciting about Pittsburgh, is the built-in leadership."
It's very possible that Tomlin knows that Rodgers isn't a huge fan of mandatory offseason workouts. Despite this, the quarterback showed up, and his coach set him up to meet his new teammates, but slowly ease into locker room. It was a very clearly-designed approach by Tomlin, and it was good that Rodgers got a chance to sit back and watch everything in motion.
The Steelers have now set the team up for success in 2025. If Rodgers is truly healthy and ready to play at an elite level, the organization could absolutely surprise many people throughout the NFL's landscape. Rodgers acknowledging that his minicamp experience was weird, but good for him is all that fans need to hear. He enjoyed his first time on the Steelers' practice field, which is certainly a plus.
Pittsburgh will now prepare for a pivotal training camp. Once the team reports to Latrobe, it will be full-throttle ahead, and Rodgers will have the chance to run an offense that could be secretly dangerous. The coming months will be the determining factor on how quickly the group can rally around the future Hall of Famer. The fan base is hoping that the veteran has one final Super Bowl run left in him.
When any organization has a 21-year veteran under center, that individual has to be trusted throughout the season. This is what will be expected for Rodgers in the Steel City. He is one of the most intelligent quarterbacks of all time, and needs to have some free rein as the campaign progresses. As he builds rapport with his teammates, the offensive unit could suddenly turn into a dangerous one.
