Aaron Rodgers Documentary Reveals Shocking Detail about Jordan Love

December 17 was one of the days the whole world was waiting for.

Jokes aside, the new Aaron Rodgers documentary Enigma debuted on Netflix.

The documentary chronicles Rodgers' career as well as extracurricular activities.

One detail that emerged, however, was a shocking insight into how Rodgers was replaced.

Ted Thompson was no stranger to controversy.

In 2005, he drafted the man to replace franchise legend Brett Favre.

That choice, of course, was picking Aaron Rodgers after he famously fell in that draft.

Rodgers had always been reverent of Thompson for believing in him enough to give him a chance to play in the NFL.

Thompson's choice did not come without controversy.

Packers employees have talked about being booed at their own draft party when Rodgers's pick was announced.

The criticisms were the same as they were the same as what they were when Brian Gutekunst picked Jordan Love in April, 2020.

How could the Packers do this to Brett Favre?

Don't they care about winning now?

Didn't they need help on defense?

Couldn't they use another weapon?

As it turns out, all of those criticisms were erroneous, because Aaron Rodgers became a 4x league MVP and is a no doubt first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Rodgers was the face of the franchise from 2008 until he was traded after the 2022 season.

Those wheels began to go into motion when the Packers drafted Love in 2020. From that day forward, Rodgers would consistently refer to Love as, "My replacement."

Rodgers staved off elimination from Green Bay as long as he could. He won back-to-back MVPs after Love was drafted, but the Packers fell short in two home playoff games in 2021 and 2022.

Following a disastrous 2022 regular season, the Packers had decided it was time to move on from Rodgers and hand the keys to Jordan Love.

Love has often been seen as Brian Gutekunst's legacy pick in a similar ilk to the way that Ted Thompson made his when he took Rodgers.

Gutekunst was in the draft room when Thompson took Rodgers, and clearly took some notes.

The quarterback position is the most important one in sports. Gutekunst knew that and did not want to be caught with his pants down, similar to what has happened in Pittsburgh, New Orleans, and New England.

All three of those teams failed to invest in a long-term solution to replace their franchise legends.

None of those franchises had found their long-term solution at quarterback until New England took Drake Maye in this past year's draft.

That required the Patriots to bottom out completely, something that Gutekunst refused to do.

As it turns out, Gutekunst did more than take notes from Thompson during the year he selected Love.

According to the Enigma documentary, Matt LaFleur said Thompson made his voice known as to what his former apprentice should do in what has become a defining moment in franchise history.

“I don’t think a lot of people, at least in our camp, thought that Jordan would have been there when we were picking and the opportunity presented itself. It was an opportunity that Ted Thompson said was too good to pass up.” Matt LaFleur said.

Really?

Ted Thompson, the man who drafted Rodgers, said it was too good of an opportunity to pass up picking his replacement.

That information is genuinely new. It's something that had not been reported prior to the release of the documentary.

Perhaps Gutekunst would have taken Love anyway as a former Thompson disciple.

Perhaps Thompson was influential enough in Gutekunst's ear that it pushed him over the edge to make the choice.

Either way, Love is the Packers' quarterback, and the team's arrow is pointed upward.

Meanwhile, the Jets, Rodgers' new team, remain an utter disaster.

If Thompson is to be credited with picking both Rodgers and having some influence in the selection of Love, there's a good argument to be made that he should be enshrined next to Ron Wolf in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
