Aaron Rodgers drops bombshell news about return timeline

While the action on the field between the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders on “Sunday Night Football” was rather uneventful, the moment most will remember from the game was what Aaron Rodgers said regarding his possible return.

NBC sideline reporter Melissa Stark revealed during the broadcast that Rodgers disclosed to her before the game that he was eyeing a mid-December return to the field after having surgery to repair his torn Achilles on Sept. 13.

“He said, ‘I know it sounds insane, but you do a good surgery and you have a good patient it makes this possible,’” Stark said, via the New York Post. “…He told me he has been working on a weight-limiting treadmill, jogging at 50% of his body weight. His goal this week, to increase to 75%. He said he can drop back and he can cross over. He just has to be able to get up on his toe. He has to get his heel off the ground to start running.”

Not two months after having surgery to repair his ruptured left Achilles, Rodgers is already walking without crutches. He has also been seen on the Jets sidelines throwing passes during team warmups the last few games.

Rodgers had what’s known as a “speed bridge” procedure – a new and innovative technique that places an internal brace over the repaired Achilles to help accelerate the rehabilitation process and recovery time for the injury. The projected timetable for the procedure is four months, which would have put Rodgers on track to return in mid-January for a potential Jets playoff run.

If Rodgers’ projected timeline is reasonable, he could return in time for the Jets’ Week 15 matchup with the Miami Dolphins on Dec. 17 or their Week 16 game against the Washington Commanders on Dec. 24.
