The Pittsburgh Steelers' success in Week 1 against Aaron Rodgers' former team the New York Jets did not carry over into Week 2 as Pittsburgh dropped a 31-17 game to Sam Darnold and the Seahawks at home.
The loss included a rough performance from Rodgers, the Steelers' starting QB, as he completed 18-of-33 passes for 203 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
On Monday, legendary Jets coach Herman Edwards shared his thoughts on Rodgers' performance during which he had one key piece of advice for the former Jets trade acquisition.
Rodgers was sacked three times on the day and didn't always appear as comfortable throwing the ball as fans had become accustomed to seeing.
Edwards shared his thoughts on what he thinks Rodgers should change on ESPN SportsCenter's 'Monday Afternoon QB' segment.
"He was inconsistent, when you think about Aaron Rodgers," Edwards said. "He likes playing from the pocket, he felt pressured at times, was very not accurate in the sense that he was using his arms too much, didn't plant his feet to throw, made a lot of awkward throws that he could generally make.
"He was sacked three times, got hit a bunch, and remember this he always feels like he's gotta score points because of the Pittsburgh Steelers defense."
Rodgers won over plenty of skeptics with his team's exciting Week 1 win over the Jets but could find himself on the wrong side of Pittsburgh's fanbase soon if things don't change quickly.
A road game against the New England Patriots on Sept. 21 looks like a winnable game but Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel knows how to stifle opposing quarterbacks as well as any coach in the game.
A Pittsburgh win would go a long way toward restoring confidence in Rodgers after a lackluster second week.
Rodgers' tendency to ad-lib, scramble and attempt high risk throws at age 41 is likely to remain a hot topic for the entire season. The former Packers star has the accuracy and arm strength to succeed from the pocket and outside of the pocket, but has yet to find a happy medium during his time in New York and Pittsburgh the way he did in Green Bay.
