Aaron Rodgers gives a hint about his future with the Jets in 2025

The season for Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets hasn't gone like anyone expected. The team is 3-7, and the playoffs chances are almost inexistent. Rodgers himself hasn't played at his normal level, and he is about to be 41 years old.

But all these circumstances don't affect how Rodgers see his future in the NFL.

"Not really, not for the negative, no," Rodgers said on Wednesday when asked if the bad season could change his plans.

As a follow-up, the quarterback was asked if he planned on returning for the 2025 season. While his answer was not definitive, it gave a strong indication of what he intends to do.

“I think so, yeah.”

Among 35 qualifying quarterbacks this season, Rodgers is 21st in EPA+CPOE composite, a metric to evaluate efficiency and accuracy from passers. The Jets quarterback has completed 62.4% of his passes for 2,258 yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, a 86.8 passer rating — his worst season as a full-time starter in the NFL.

Considerations

Aaron Rodgers won't decide his future alone, though. Even though he is under contract for 2025 with the Jets and is slated to make $37.5 million, there are no guarantees left for the last year of his contract. If the Jets decide to fire general manager Joe Douglas, for example, it's impossible to know right now how that would impact Rodgers' future.

If New York wants to go in a different Direction, the team would have to handle $49.5 million in dead money — which could potentially be split in two years if the team applies a post-June 1st designation.

Aaron Rodgers has said he considered retirement after the 2022 season, his last one with the Green Bay Packers. However, he decided to keep playing and was ultimately traded to the Jets in 2023.
