Aaron Rodgers is down to two potential choices

Once again, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers are stuck in the waiting game.

Rodgers is weighing his options as he continues to mull retirement, and the Steelers need to know whether their starting quarterback will return for another season. This time, however, the pool of options has shrunk significantly for the future Hall of Famer. There aren't any other teams keeping tabs on him right now.

According to Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, that has left Rodgers stuck with two choices: retire or return to the Steelers.

It's either Pittsburgh or retirement for Aaron Rodgers

“I think it’s still Pittsburgh or retirement, which is what it’s always been [for Rodgers],” the source told Robinson. “But I also wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a little more push from the Steelers than there was last offseason. I don’t think ownership wants to go down that road again after the draft.”

The Steelers hired former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy to replace the legendary Mike Tomlin. Besides McCarthy's ties to the organization as a Pittsburgh native and graduate, that seemed like an obvious move to convince Rodgers to stay a little longer.

However, even if Rodgers isn't in much of a hurry, the Steelers need to consider all their options here. With no big names up for grabs and a slim chance of drafting a replacement, losing Rodgers might leave them with a QB room consisting of perennial backup Mason Rudolph and second-year sixth-round pick Will Howard.

Other than that, they can maybe pursue Kirk Cousins or Joe Flacco as placeholders while they aim for the class of 2027 to find their guy for the long run.
