Water under the bridge between Aaron Rodgers and Broderick Jones. The veteran Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback holds no grudge against the offensive tackle for jumping on his back when they played against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The week seven fixture between the Steelers and the Bengals generated several talking points. Most of them revolved around Rodgers getting animated with his teammate’s mistake.
While trailing the Bengals near the end of the fourth quarter, Rodgers threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to tight end Pat Freiermuth to reduce the gap. Amidst the madness inside the Acrisure Stadium, fans noticed an angry Rodgers pushing third-year tackle away from him.
ESPN’s Brooke Pryor spoke with Rodgers about the little skirmish. Rodgers replied,
I am staying clean; the only tackle I had the other night was from Broderick. Besides that, I am feeling very good.
The cameras caught Rodgers hitting the deck after 6-foot-5, 311-pound Broderick Jones climbed onto his back to celebrate Freiermuth’s touchdown. Rodgers isn’t exactly Ben Roethlisberger, who was big enough to stand his ground. He couldn’t support Jones’ body weight and ended up on the turf.
Quarterbacks must stay on the same page as their offensive linemen. Rodgers, being the consummate professional, quickly established a rapport with his protectors in the Steelers.
Jones is one such individual who hit it off with Rodgers. According to the four-time NFL MVP, Jones always comes to dab with him after a successful pass or a touchdown.
Brod [Jones] is always the first one to come find me after a play. It could be like the first big pass down to DK Metcalf on third down, he comes and daps me up. What you didn’t see in the video, right after the throw, he’s coming up to me and shaking me and shaking me.
Aaron Rodgers said
However, Rodgers had no other option but to draw a line after Jones nearly flattened him last Thursday.
I texted him after and said, ‘Hey man, I love your energy and I love everything you are about, but also I am 41, Ok.’ He can’t be out there tackling me like that, but I love Brod. We had a couple of laughs about it, and I told him I’m getting him next. He’d better watch his back.
Rodgers joked
“The only tackle I had the other night was Broderick.”

Jones has had a decent start to the 2025 season. On 341 snaps, Jones has allowed just 4 sacks and committed just 1 penalty after moving to left tackle. It was the right move by the Steelers’ front office.
The Georgia graduate struggled throughout the 2024 season at right tackle, achieving just a 58.5 PFF grade. PFF‘s Dalton Wasserman had listed Jones as a trade candidate if he failed to improve his game.
The Steelers desperately need production and continuity at offensive tackle, especially with Aaron Rodgers lined up to be their starting quarterback… This season, Jones will move to left tackle, where he played in college. If he and fellow youngster Troy Fautanu struggle to protect Rodgers, Pittsburgh could have serious issues scoring points .
It’s safe to say Jones has performed admirably since moving back to his original position. Rodgers will require more from him when his former team, the Green Bay Packers, arrives in Pittsburgh in week eight.
