Aaron Rodgers on offseason: 'It's been great'

Green Bay Packers quarterback and reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers recently remained away from the club's mandatory minicamp amid reports he wants to be traded and could continue his holdout through at least the start of the 2021 regular season. 

While promoting the latest edition of "The Match" that involves Rodgers and Bryson DeChambeau facing Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson in Montana on July 6, the Green Bay QB was able to joke about the many headlines he's generated throughout the spring.

"It’s been one of those quiet offseasons you dream about, where you can kind of just go through your process on your own, quietly, and that’s all you can ask for as an older player in the league and someone who’s been around for a long time and just enjoys that time to yourself, just relax, to not be bothered, to not have any obligations or anything going on," Rodgers said, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "You know, I think that’s what this offseason has been about. It’s been about really enjoying my time and spending it where I want to spend it and not feeling like I have to go anywhere and not have any responsibilities, but still be an NFL player at the same time. It’s been great." 

It's unclear if the Packers chose to excuse Rodgers' absence from minicamp. The club otherwise could fine him roughly $93,000 for missing the three-day event. While he was away, 2020 rookie and backup signal-caller Jordan Love seemed to impress head coach Matt LaFleur, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and other onlookers. 

Meanwhile, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has insisted he isn't trading Rodgers, who turns 38 years old in December and is signed through 2023.
