Aaron Rodgers Predicted to Decide Between 2 Options This Offseason

Aaron Rodgers has played his free agency as cool, or cooler, than anyone might have predicted to this point.

The free agent quarterback, who has four MVPs and a Super Bowl ring on what is a surefire Hall of Fame resumé, had multiple options entering the offseason. However, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report predicted on Tuesday, May 13, that his viable options have narrowed to just two.

"Since the New York Jets released Aaron Rodgers in March, he's been mulling over a decision to continue his playing career or retire," Moton wrote. "This offseason, Rodgers will join the Steelers or hang up his cleats."

The New York Giants offered Rodgers a contract this spring, but the QB's decision to take his time led that franchise to sign Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, then draft Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss late in the first round.

Rodgers held out, at least in part, in hopes that the Minnesota Vikings would bring him into a franchise that won 14 games in 2024 and appears prepared to roll with second-year QB J.J. McCarthy -- who has yet to take a snap in a regular-season NFL game -- as the starter in 2025.

Minnesota mulled Rodgers as an option for several days, but backed off the idea and then traded with the Seattle Seahawks for Sam Howell.

That leaves Pittsburgh as the logical landing spot for the 41-year-old Rodgers, who remains unsigned midway through May. The Steelers don't have a proven starter on the roster, which includes Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and sixth-round rookie Will Howard out of Ohio State.

The New Orleans Saints could present Rodgers with an alternative after Derek Carr chose to retire following an 11-year career, though that franchise is primed for a reset with a new head coach in Kellen Moore and salary cap issues that could take multiple years to clean up.

The Saints also drafted QB Tyler Shough out of Louisville in the second round.
