The Pittsburgh Steelers went to great lengths to acquire DK Metcalf in the offseason.
With George Pickens no longer in the picture, Metcalf is entrenched as the team's primary pass-catcher. But it doesn't sound like he's the only receiver to catch Aaron Rodgers' eye.
Rodgers believes Roman Wilson can also make a big impact in his second year in the league. Talking to the media, the new Steelers' QB gushed about Wilson's continuous improvement and preseason performances.
“I think he’s improving every day,” Rodgers said, per Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith. “You can’t skew the results from the details. You look at his game the other night, he made a couple splash plays. But we’re going to coach him hard. His receiver coach, Art [Smith], and myself on the details, because the details are what make the difference. And even though he had a couple of big plays, there’s some room for improvement there."
Wilson was limited to six snaps as a rookie due to ankle and hamstring injuries. But now that he's back to full strength, Rodgers won't baby or spoon-feed him.
"Wouldn’t say anything if we just thought he was going to be a guy, just any guy that could you throw in. But I think he has a chance to be a big-time talent in the league. So, we’re going to hold him to a high standard," Rodgers said.
The third-round speedster will most likely begin the season as the fourth or fifth pass-catcher in the pecking order.
Then again, other than Metcalf, there are no guarantees in the passing game in Pittsburgh. Wilson has already impressed Rodgers, who's usually not that high on young players.
