Aaron Rodgers: Reports of contract details 'are inaccurate'

Aaron Rodgers is returning to the Green Bay Packers next season, but the star quarterback is apparently annoyed with the way the details of his decision have been reported.

Pat McAfee, who is close friends with Rodgers, was the first to report on Tuesday that Rodgers is sticking with the Packers. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media then said Rodgers and the Packers have agreed to a four-year, $200 million deal. That would make Rodgers the highest-paid player in NFL history in terms of average annual salary.

The contract is not finalized, however. McAfee, whose source is Rodgers himself, said the figures Rapoport shared are inaccurate. Rodgers later confirmed that he has agreed to return to Green Bay but said any reports about him signing a $200 million deal are false.

Rodgers is clearly concerned about public perception. He was quick to deny a report last month that said he insisted on being the highest-paid player in the NFL. McAfee said on his show Tuesday that signing a salary cap-friendly deal was extremely important to Rodgers, so perhaps his agreement with the Packers will reflect that.

It will be interesting to see what the actual figures are. Our guess is that Rodgers’ contract will include void years or something along those lines in order to spread out the cap hit. Either way, he’s going to make a ton of money, and deservedly so. The MVP just wants credit for helping the Packers retain other stars, which is something they are already in the process of doing.
