Aaron Rodgers shares intriguing quote about his playing future

As perhaps should have been predicted, Aaron Rodgers is not entirely shutting the door on playing another NFL season.

Rodgers discussed his future on Wednesday, and suggested he expects to have options if he wants to play for another season. The 42-year-old offered no clarity on whether he would do so, but he did rave about his experience with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Whenever the season ends, I’ll be a free agent. That’ll give me a lot of options — not a lot of options, but maybe one or two if I decide I still want to play,” Rodgers said.

“I’ve enjoyed this experience. Everybody in Pittsburgh has been fantastic to me on and off the field, which is really what I was hoping for for this experience. It’s been even better than I was hoping.”

Rodgers’ effusive praise of the Steelers certainly makes it sound like he would not be completely opposed to a return. That interest may be mutual, though it obviously depends on whether he wants to keep playing.

Prior to the season, Rodgers very much made it sound like this would be his final season. On the other hand, he tends to take his time when deciding whether he wants to play for another year or not, and he is known to be quite cryptic on the topic. This is probably just another example of that, and he will not know how he really feels for a while.

Rodgers has thrown for 3,028 yards with 23 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. If he can help guide his team to a win against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night, he will even have a division title and playoff appearance to show for his efforts.
