The Pittsburgh Steelers' passing offense had one of their most effective games of the season in a 27-22 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Aaron Rodgers and star pass-catcher DK Metcalf opened the game with a 55-yard bomb, completely throwing the Ravens' defense off and setting the stage for a 284-yard day through the air.
The performance was crucial for the Steelers as they try to turn their season around. While the group wasn't well-balanced, mustering up just 34 rushing yards to accompany their passing attack, it was a step forward.
The one positive in the running game was Rodgers, who turned back the clock against the Ravens. He recorded his first rushing touchdown since 2021 on a one-yard QB keeper in the first half. It was a vintage Rodgers play to help get the offense going.
Maybe part of the reason for their success was the literal field they were playing on. M&T Bank Stadium is a grass field, which might have helped Rodgers and the offense. He shared a revealing comment about the playing surface in his postgame press conference.
"Some days you feel great, other days you feel maybe just good," he said. "Today I fellt great. Maybe because they've got such a beautiful grass field. But I felt good moving around there."
The comments seem to be an indirect shot at the Steelers' home field, Acrisure Stadium. While they also use a grass field, it's taken criticism for its condition on multiple occasions. The most recent came earlier this year, when Steelers safety Miles Killebrew suffered a season-ending knee injury that seemingly was the result of the beat up playing surface.
Rodgers himself spoke about the issue after that contest against the Cleveland Browns earlier this year and didn't seem pleased about the field's condition.
"I couldn't tell pregame, no. I just felt like it got real beat up," Rodgers said after the game. By the time the third quarter rolled around, that thing was really beat up, so I feel bad about what happened to Miles."
Unfortunately for the Steelers, they have two more games left to play on their Acrisure Stadium field. They welcome the Cleveland Browns for their second AFC North matchup and then close out their regular season schedule with a rematch against the Ravens.
