Whenever Aaron Rodgers retires from the NFL, it’s possible he could do it as a member of the Green Bay Packers. During an appearance on the YNK Podcast with Mike Stud, Rodgers revealed he’s willing to retire as a Packer under one condition. Rodgers said if Green Bay “approached” him, he would be happy to do it.
“There’s a lot of love for me and how I feel about the team,” Aaron Rodgers said, per CBS Sports. “If I do or I don’t [retire as a Packer], I don’t think it should make a difference, I’m not sure yet. If they approached me about it, I probably would.”
Before those comments, Rodgers gave an interesting answer about retiring as a member of the Packers. “I’ve thought about that, but I don’t understand what the reason for that is,” Rodgers said. “At the same time, I grew up a [49ers] fan and most of my favorite players retired as a Niner. Jerry Rice, who went to three other teams, came back and retired as a Niner, so I understand the cool thing about it, but if I didn’t do it, would that make a difference in how I’m viewed in the Packers’ eyes?”
Rodgers was selected by the Packers at No. 24 overall in the 2005 NFL Draft. He was with the team through the 2022 season before the Packers traded him to the New York Jets in April 2023. Even if Rodgers doesn’t sign a one-day contract with Green Bay, he’s confident that he will be inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame once he’s eligible.
“When I retire, in four years, I’m going to go in the Packers Hall of Fame — may or may not get my number retired, whether they do or not that’s fine — but in four years, I’ll be in the Packers Hall of Fame,” Rodgers said. During his time with the Packers, Rodgers was selected to the Pro Bowl 10 times, named MVP four times and led the Packers to a Super Bowl title during the 2010 season. His work on the field led to him being named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. Rodgers is a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer, meaning he will more than likely be honored by the Packers once his career ends.
