Achane and Dolphins NOT CLOSE on Terms of Contract Extension
Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins are not close to terms of a contract extension with De’Von Achane.
He goes on to state they are not close to terms of an extension with Aaron Brewer and Jordyn Brooks either.
Kelly said: “Tailback De’Von Achane, inside linebacker Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson, and center Aaron Brewer are all entering the final season of their contract, and therefore seek extensions. The Dolphins are aware, and have discussed it with each. But no deals are close, sources say.”
Kelly went on to say: “Achane likely won’t accept a dollar less, with the goal of becoming the 12th tailback who makes at least $11 million a season.”
There is no rush to give an extension to Achane right now, as Miami can place the franchise tag on him after this season and control him through the end of the 2027 season and decide then if they want to extend him.
Of course, expect Achane to hold out all of the OTAs, mini-camps, and in training camp this season. And by holding out, I mean he will show up for training camp, and just not participate to avoid getting fined.
Of course, with this report and the NFL Draft less than two weeks away, expect the constant speculation to be out there that Miami may trade Achane if the right offer comes in, despite new Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan stating he has no intention to trade him.
De’Von Achane was voted to his first Pro Bowl this past season, where he had a career year in production.
Achane ran for 1,350 yards in 16 games and had eight rushing touchdowns. He also led the NFL, averaging 5.7 YPC this past season.
He also had 67 receptions for 488 yards and four receiving touchdowns, cementing himself as Miami’s best offensive player in 2025.
In the case of Brooks and Brewer, it is very different.
For Brooks, there have been trade rumors going on for a while now, tying him to Dallas and other teams that may be interested. If he is traded in the next 10 days or so, nobody will be shocked.
Jordyn Brooks was outstanding in 2025 for Miami and was named First Team All-Pro for the Dolphins. He had 183 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. He was Miami’s best defensive player week in and week out throughout the season and a vocal leader for this team as well.
I don’t think they will want to trade Brewer, so it will be interesting to see if they can work out a long-term deal with him at some point this offseason.
Aaron Brewer was Miami’s best offensive lineman in 2025 and was voted 2nd team All-Pro.
This past season, he was called for 3 holding penalties and 2 false starts, which is down from his 2024 season, when he had 5 holding penalties and only 1 false start.
In his two seasons in Miami, he has missed only one game, and he is the anchor of the Dolphins’ offensive line and a key piece they cannot afford to lose after this season.
