ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter ranks among the best top among NFL insiders for his quick reporting on the sport's biggest stories. But a recent story he's been reporting on has gotten under the skin of a rival insider.
On the latest episode of his PFT Live show with Chris Simms, NFL insider Mike Florio admonished Schefter for his recent reporting on the ongoing Christian Wilkins release saga.
The Raiders released Wilkins late last week for reasons that have been disputed among insiders. But Florio believes that Schefter has been receiving all of his reports on the separation from Wilkins' agent, David Mulugheta. He asserted that Schefter is knowingly Mulugheta's story to make Wilkins look better to the public in exchange for future scoops.
"The reality here is that Christian Wilkins is looking for a job. And the reality here is Christian Wilkins has representation that is charged with finding him a job," Florio explained.
“Let’s call it what it is. David Mulugheta represents Christian Wilkins. He’s working Schefty to get Schefty to put a story out there that is favorable to Christian Wilkins. Let's just say what that is," he said.

"That's how it works. Why does the reporter do it? Because it pays off on the back end. For example, when (Dallas Cowboys linebacker) Micah Parsons signs his deal, Schefter may be the first one to report it now because it's the same agent representing both guys. That's the transactional nature of the NFL insider game.
"Every once in a while you eat a little (expletive), you push something that may not be accurate or you let someone tell you a lie that you put out there because they'll make it up to you on the back end because that other stuff doesn't get noticed and scrutinized the way it should."
Those are some pretty harsh words coming from Florio.
This isn't the first time he's publicly clashed with Schefter though. Last year Florio accused Schefter of being fed information straight from NFL coach Pete Carroll's agent before Christmas.
In that instance, Schefter clapped back at Florio, accusing him of telling complete falsehoods.
“Everything you say here is 100 percent wrong. Keep up the guess work and Merry Christmas," Schefter said on X back in December.
Time will tell if Schefter decides to respond to Florio again. If what Florio said is false, Schefter would pretty much have to. On the other hand, if Florio is right, Schefter might be compelled to stay a little bit more quiet this time.
As for the Christian Wilkins situation, that situation is still playing itself out and probably will for a while.
The Raiders voided the guarantees on the four-year, $110 million deal he signed last year. The NFL players' union has filed a grievance on his behalf but it may take time to see that resolved.
One thing seems certain: Someone has either been misinformed or is outright lying about the reasons for his release.
