Earlier this offseason, Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II admitted the team would like to sign either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields to come back for the 2025 season.

Rooney believes both are capable starting quarterbacks, but wants to choose one of the two instead of having both on the roster like the team did last season where Fields started the first six games before being benched in favor of Wilson.

"I think both of them see themselves as starters, and I don't know that they want to share the same job again next year," Rooney said. "So, I would say most likely we probably don't wind up bringing them both back."

Pittsburgh is still in search of a franchise quarterback after failing to put a succession plan in place following the retirement of future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. As the Steelers continue their offseason preparations ahead of the 2025 NFL draft, ESPN's Adam Schefter was asked to predict who will be the team's starting quarterback next season.

He initially suggested one of Wilson or Fields before whittling down his pick to one.

"Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, one of them will be back. One of them I expect to be back," Schefter said before being asked which one and ultimately choosing Wilson.

During the 2024 season, Wilson completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions while Field completed 65.8% of his passes for 1,106 yards with five touchdowns and just one interception to go along with 289 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Wilson will turn 37 years old during the 2025 season while Fields will be 26 in May.
