Regardless of what has been said and written, there remained no indication as of Tuesday morning that quarterback Aaron Rodgers had any real interest in playing for the Arizona Cardinals or a different team other than the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2026 season.
During a Tuesday appearance on the "Unsportsmanlike" program, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter addressed whether or not Rodgers is still a free agent because he's waiting to receive an offer from a club other than the Steelers.
"I don't see a second place right now," Schefter said about Rodgers, per Josh Carney of Steelers Depot. "I just don't see it. You tell me a second-place team. Somebody floated out Arizona. I don't see Aaron Rodgers going out to Arizona to finish out his career. With all due respect, like, what would be the team? I welcome suggestions. I don't see it."
Some within the Steelers are reportedly growing frustrated that Rodgers still hasn't committed to playing for the team through the 2026 campaign. That said, the future Hall of Famer is allegedly still quite popular among Pittsburgh players. Additionally, a Monday report insisted that Rodgers is "coming back" to play for the Steelers after the club placed a rarely used unrestricted free-agent tender on him after the draft.
"I think he liked Pittsburgh," Schefter added about Rodgers during Tuesday's segment. "I don't think that's the issue. I don't think he's holding out, waiting for a better opportunity. I just think that he has not been ready. ...These things move on the quarterback schedule when they're ready, and so far, Rodgers has not been ready."
Recent whispers have hinted that Rodgers will feel more ready to sign a contract right before the organized team practice activity portion of Pittsburgh's offseason program begins on May 18. The Steelers' mandatory minicamp is scheduled to run from June 2-4, and Rodgers signed in time to participate in those workouts last offseason. If he doesn't do so this time around, that could show that he is seriously considering calling time on his playing career.
