The Washington Commanders finally resolved their ongoing contract standoff with wide receiver Terry McLaurin just in time for the 2025 season. Things aren't going as smoothly between the Dallas Cowboys and All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Things are coming to the boil. And for the first time, owner/general manager Jerry Jones is reportedly willing to see what could be on the table for one of his franchise cornerstones.
Adam Schefter, Dan Graziano, and Todd Archer from ESPN revealed that although no trade is imminent, the Cowboys are listening to offers from teams that call. Any move involving Parsons would shake the NFL to its foundations, but the scenario is becoming more realistic.
Several teams have spoken to the Dallas Cowboys about a potential Micah Parsons trade, and for the first time the Cowboys appear willing to at least listen, according to multiple sources. No trade is imminent, but another team always could be aggressive enough to make it come together quickly, per sources. The Cowboys would like to resolve the situation, one way or another, in the coming days, with their season opener next Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles.ESPN insiders
Of all the contract battles across the league this offseason, Parsons' should have been the easiest to figure out. He's one of the league's best players, only just entering his prime. Jones thought he had a deal with the Penn State product without his agent's involvement. That was a grave mistake, and he's been unwilling to budge since.
Reports about Parsons being a nuisance behind the scenes and his supposed back injury have only clouded the issue further. But even if he does end up getting traded, it won't be to the Commanders.
Jones might have fumbled team affairs for almost 30 years, but he's not going to move Parsons to a division rival. It doesn't matter what the Commanders offer or how much Parsons might want to reunite with head coach Dan Quinn; it's just not going to happen.
Still, the thought of Parsons being out of the NFC East is an exciting enough proposition. He's tormented the Commanders from the moment he entered the league as a first-round pick. Not playing him twice a season, coupled with how big a loss it would be for the Cowboys, and there will be joyous scenes in Washington if this blockbuster does end up getting rubber-stamped at some stage.
The Cowboys love being the center of attention. But this seems like a step too far even for Washington's most bitter rival.
