Broncos RB Jonah Coleman currently has 30 carries for 134 rushing yards and nine receptions for 97 receiving yards through eight games. Denver OT Mike McGlinchey isn’t surprised by the rookie’s production after seeing what he can do in practice.
“I don’t think it’s a surprise to us, we’ve seen it in practice, in a lot of different situations, he’s just a talented kid,” McGlinchey said, via Jeff Legwold of ESPN. “I think he’s only going to get better the more he’s out there.”
Coleman scored the game-winning touchdown in Denver’s Week 8 victory over the Chiefs. The running back knows the fourth quarter is a critical time to perform.
“Just about going hard for one another,” Coleman said. “It was good to punch in the game-winner. … Fourth quarter hit, we know what time it is.”
Coleman isn’t keeping track of his workload and is just trying to make the most of his opportunities.
“I don’t really count the carries,” Coleman said. “Just make the best of the opportunities whenever I get the ball. … I try to embrace whatever role it is to win.”
Chiefs DL Chris Jones refused to use his age as an excuse for the team’s poor pash rush this season but accepted ownership of the results.
“I feel pretty good,” he said, via ESPN. “It’s all about perspective, again, how you look at it. I’ve played a lot of games, fortunately. I’ve been very, very blessed to be successful in this league for a long time. I’ve seen a lot. I don’t think my age right now is playing a factor. We’ve just got to take advantage of those opportunities when they present themselves.”
Chiefs HC Andy Reid added that Jones is impacting the game far beyond the box score.
“Chris is giving it his all,” Reid said. “He’s doing everything he can do. He gets doubled from various angles. He’s going to draw a lot of attention. That’s an advantage to the other guy to have a chance to get themselves home. As much emphasis is put on Chris, let’s take advantage of that and get ourselves on the quarterback. Just not to the quarterback, but on the quarterback.”
Jones was visibly frustrated after the team’s game against the Broncos.
“It’s only one thing: Rush the passer, get the quarterback down,” Jones said. “We blocked a couple of balls, but I don’t think we got [Nix] down. I put that on the D-line. We’ve got to win our one-on-ones. We’ve got to take advantage of that. We get a one-on-one, we’ve got to win it.”
