The Philadelphia Eagles upheld their unbeaten record this weekend, but the offense still has a lot of kinks to iron out.
The LA Rams threatened the Philadelphia Eagles’ unbeaten record on Sunday afternoon, with a closely contested game decided by the final kick of the football with seconds left on the clock.
While the Eagles were fortunate to escape with the win, wide receiver AJ Brown pointed out a significant need for improvement.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ offense has struggled early this season, and this week was no different with the matchup against the LA Rams.
Kevin Patullo had promised that the missing plays were coming earlier this week, but it took a player-inspired drive to wake up the offense in Week 3.
Jalen Hurts and the offense had managed just 34 yards in total in the first half of the game, and trailed 19-7 at the break.
That lead extended to 26-7 in the third quarter, and at that point the Eagles didn’t look like they stood a chance of fighting their way back into the game.
It was a Jalen Hurts deep ball to AJ Brown that woke the offense up. The quarterback had just 28 yards passing at that point in the game, but the connection with his star receiver led to another strike over the middle of the field, this time finding tight end Dallas Goedert for a touchdown.

The Eagles drove the length of the field on the ensuing drive, this time with Jalen Hurts targeting Brown in man-to-man coverage, and the receiver winning his matchup to haul in the score.
Brown had an inspired second half, and it was his reception and subsequent broken tackle that kept the Eagles’ final scoring drive alive in the fourth quarter. He was dominating the man defender on his side of the field, and caught another just moments later before bursting down the sideline.
DeVonta Smith caught the go-ahead touchdown from Hurts, and the Eagles blocked a potential game-winning field goal from the Rams to seal the win and complete a tremendous second-half resurgence.
AJ Brown spoke with the media after the game, saying:
“I truly believe we’ve got so many good players on this team, and at times you can feel like we’re being conservative, and I don’t think it should be like that…Let your killers do their thing and play fast and play aggressive. Not saying that we haven’t been, but me personally, that’s what I would like.”
“Obviously, we’re going to run the ball and we’re going to set up the run off the pass and the pass off the run, but we have a lot of good players and we should just let them go.”

Brown’s comments appeared to be directed at Kevin Patullo, who has been taking a lot of criticism in his first season as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator.
AJ Brown had just one catch for eight yards in the opening game of the season against the Dallas Cowboys, and only 27 yards in the Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Outside of the controversial tush push, the Eagles’ offense appeared to be lacking identity.
This week, Brown was unleashed with six catches for 109 yards and a touchdown, silencing his critics with a performance that practically drove the Eagles to their comeback win.
Jalen Hurts was seen having a heated conversation with Patullo on the sidelines during the game, and said afterwards:
“It was a complete team effort.. If it meant getting out of character given a situation, it’s about doing it. The only thing we ever care about is finding a way to win the game.”

Fans jumped in on the Kevin Patullo criticism online too. One posted on X to say:
“If the Eagles are a serious franchise, they have to fire Kevin Patullo after this game. The offense isn’t getting better; it’s gotten worse. A lot worse. He’s horrible. It’s time to move on, or this season is a bust.”
Once the Eagles started to move the ball, fans wondered if the players had taken over:
“I’m not even joking that drive looked like they told Kevin Patullo to straight up stop calling plays.”

As Jalen Hurts explained, the most important thing was finding a way to win the game. The Eagles did that, and will now battle another team that has done the same thing through the first three weeks of the season.
Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t had the prettiest wins, but they have won their first three games of the year. All three of those results came via a three-point margin or less, including the last gasp field goal to win against the New York Jets this weekend.
The Eagles will travel down to Florida to face the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium next Sunday afternoon, and one of those teams is going to see their perfect record tarnished at the end of the matchup.
