New England Patriots wide receiver AJ Brown made his return to the lineup from injury on Sunday, but his initial play left a lot to be desired.
Brown got roasted for dropping what would have been a straightforward touchdown during the Patriots’ Week 6 game against the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Quarterback Drake Maye delivered a flawless deep ball that somehow went right through Brown’s hands.

The Patriots very much brought Brown in to make plays like that one. He has crossed the 1,000-yard plateau in six of his seven full seasons and has consistently hauled in touchdowns for his quarterbacks. He has yet to notch his first touchdown as a Patriot.
Brown had not played since Week 1 due to an ankle injury that had landed him on injured reserve. The Patriots activated him for this game earlier in the week.
Brown is a No. 1 wide receiver who consistently demands the ball and does not like suggestions that he is not elite. His critics will certainly seize on the drop as evidence to the contrary.
