A.J. Brown Trade Timeline Revealed In Latest Report

The Philadelphia Eagles still have A.J. Brown on the roster, but that might not be the case when Week 1 rolls around. Originally a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Mississippi product spent the past seven years establishing himself as one of the game’s premier weapons with both the Tennessee Titans and the Philadelphia Eagles. While he helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl in 2024 and reach another one in 2022, the wide receiver clearly wants to leave town, and the Eagles are open to shipping him out for the right price.

According to The Athletic‘s Dianna Russini, the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots are the two leading bidders for Brown’s services. While the Eagles have yet to trade him, they could consider a move closer to June 1st, and various reports across the league seem to indicate that it will likely cost a second- and fourth-round pick to secure his services.

Eagles Likely to Trade A.J. Brown After June 1st; 2 Teams Lead Bidding

It makes sense for the Eagles to wait and trade A.J. Brown after June 1st. Brown currently carries a $23.4 million cap hit, but that number will jump to an absurd $43.5 million if Philadelphia trades him before June 1st. However, if they wait until after June 1st, they can spread that money over two seasons and take on a $16.4 million cap hit for the upcoming campaign.

The Patriots make all the sense in the world as a potential destination. While the team made the Super Bowl last year and is well ahead of schedule in their rebuild, they need to add a legitimate playmaking threat to this offense. Kayshon Boutte, Demario Douglas, and free agent signee Romeo Doubs are fine complementary players, but this team still requires a legitimate WR1 to lead this passing attack. A.J. Brown may not be the player he once was, but he’d still be the best receiver on the Patriots by a comfortable margin, and head coach Mike Vrabel knows how to keep him focused.

The Los Angeles Rams, meanwhile, are much more of a surprise. While the team is famous for not really caring about draft picks, they already surrendered two first-round selections for former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie. The Rams value draft picks less than any other franchise, but they still need to add some young talent to the roster.

Additionally, the team is already set at wide receiver with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. These two form one of the game’s best pass-catching duos, and it’s hard to see where A.J. Brown would fit into the mix. Going all-in for the final years of the Matthew Stafford Era is one thing, but it doesn’t make sense to trade the last of your limited draft assets for a non-vital need.
